Concerns about the behaviour of Moo Sool Academy instructors or volunteers

  • 1. Concerns arise about the behaviour of an instructor or volunteer towards a child or member of the club.
  • 2. The individual who has concerns, or has been alerted to possible abuse or poor practice, reports the matter to the club Welfare Officer, who completes a written incident record.
  • 3. The Welfare Officer — determines the route for further action: is the matter poor practice, or possible abuse/a criminal offence?

Poor practice / breach of the code of conduct

  • 1. The concern is dealt with as a misconduct issue under the Disciplinary rules and procedures
  • 2. An investigation is undertaken and a decision reached, with appropriate measures applied (where appropriate, on the advice of the authorities).

Possible child abuse / criminal offence

  • 1. The Welfare Officer consults children’s social care, the police and/or the local authority, and follows this up in writing to them within 24 hours.
  • 2. In consultation with the appropriate authorities, and in line with the disciplinary procedures, the individual is immediately suspended where possible and other relevant parties/organisations
  • 3. The authorities lead the investigation, which may involve a representative of the club, through to its outcome.

Concerns about a child arising outside club activities

(for example: at home, school or in the community)

  • 1. An instructor, volunteer or club member becomes aware of concerns about an individual’s welfare or safety (for example suspicions of bullying at school, or allegations of abuse within the family).

  • 3. The person aware of the concerns reports the matter to a club Welfare Officer, who completes a written incident record
  • 4. The Welfare Officer consults children’s social care, the police and/or the local authority, and follows this up in writing to them within 24 hours.
